City coveted by the Romans
Programme
During these days you will discover and experience the city, its history and its impressive collection of art.
During a private tour of the city, the guide will tell you about everything about Volterra's more than two thousand years of history. The city walk takes you past elements that are still visible today, such as the famous Etruscan Porta all'Arco, the Etruscan city walls, the Roman theatre, the mediaeval towers and city gates and the Renaissance palaces and much more. |
With the Volterra Card you have free access to all museums, including the Etruscan Guarnacci Museum with its impressive collection of sarcophagi and the rare statue of Ombra della Sera, the Pinacoteca with an important painting and art collection and the mediaeval Priori Palace with impressive frescoes. But also the alabaster eco-museum, the Etruscan Acropolis and Roman water tank and the Roman theatre. And with the Anima di Volterra pass you have free access to the cathedral, the baptistery and the Santa Maria Magdalena exhibition centre.

You will also visit the Kalpa gallery, located in the historical Palazzo Bonomini, beautifully restored in 2019, unveiling its ancient walls, hidden rooms and century old cellars. Palazzo Bonomini is the physical home of KALPA Galleries, presenting timeless and charming interiors infused with harmoniously arranged meaningful art.
Volterra has also been the centre of Italy's alabaster for centuries. Even today, there are still craft workshops in the streets of Volterra where alabaster is worked. |
